Self Evaluation On West Side Story Dance.
Personally I don't think I am a very strong dancer, as a class we perfomed a dance including the Sharks and Jets from West Side Story, it was a struggle to understand the concept of every move but eventually I understood. I enjoyed doing this dance routine, due to its jazz and balletic nature.
When I watched the video back of the routine, I focused on what I was doing and set some targets along he way. One of the targets was to emphasise every movement, this would look much better, to ensure I do this in the future I will watch videos online of people dancing to songs from West Side Story.
Another target was to improve my balance, I struggle with my balance but to improve this I will work on my core strength, by getting it strong will improve my balance.
Finally I will work on my facial expressions, throughout the performance my face was telling the audience that I was struggling, in the future I will keep my facial expressions calm and relaxed. I will practice a few routines after half term focusing on my facial expressions.
Overall I think I performed ok, I knew the routine but when it came to performing it my mind went blank.

Self Evaluation On My Chicago Monologue
I was given the monologue of Mona to perform. Before performing this monologue I had to research a few things about the monologue to give an insight on what her situation was, and the reason behind this monologue.
I personally think my performance was successful, I knew the lines and presented it confidently to the class.
However I thought of some negatives, things that could have been improved. Such as, I thought I could have used more of the space when performing, I very much just stood in the same place for most of the time.
Another negative was that I could've exaggerated and overemphasised particular words to seem more like her, for example the lines "he saw himself as alive and I saw him dead".
However, overall, I thought I did a decent performance. I will set myself a few targets for future monologues, the first target is to exaggorate more throughout the performance, to do this I could possibly speak louder, use hand gestures and maybe use better facial expressions.
Finally, another target for the future is to use more of the space around me, instead of standing in the same spot the whole time I will use the space to make the performance more interesting and captivating.

JEROME ROBBINS
Jerome Robbins was a popular American choreographer, director, dancer and theatre producer who worked in ballet, television and films.

Jerome was born on October 11th 1918 in New York, and sadly died of a stroke on the 29th of July in 1998.
Jerome was famous for choreographing West Side Story in 1957, a musical that conveys the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet, while on the harsh streets of New York two gangs battle for control of the turf, the Jets and the Sharks.
Jerome was influenced by many people, such as his first dance teacher, Senia Gluck-Sandor, Antony Tudor an English ballet choreographer and Leonard Bernstein who was an American composer, conductor, author, music lecturer and pianist. Many more individuals inspired him in becoming the man he wanted to be.
It is clear what Robbins technique was in west side story, much of his movement is pedestrian, this means its a lot of walking around however involves jazz movements, such as finger clicking, also ballet techniques, such as graceful jumps and arm movements.
The jazz and ballet techniques are used to make it look more interesting and affective.
Robbins was a huge influence to many people, such as other choreographers, this type of choreography is what we see in musicals now a days, everything is done with grace and makes the scene look more genuine. Today people are constantly merging styles together to incorporate different styles of dance.
